The Difference Between Pot Limit and Limit Poker In German Poker Games
Pot limit and limit poker are two different types of German poker games and have different rules. The term ot limit is defined in a poker glossary as meaning that a German player can only bet an amount equal to that in the current pot when his/her turn comes around. The rules for this version of poker are:
- If a player does make a bet that exceeds the amount in the pot, whatever is over the amount will be given back to that player as soon as possible so that the bet amount is only what is allowed at the time.
- Any player in the game or the dealer can call attention to a larger than allowable bet and the amount can be corrected at any point in the game.
- If a bet was made that was over the limit and no one acted on it until another player called or raised, the floor person in the casino may decide that the oversized bet must stand. This sometimes happens when a player didn't notice the amount of the bet until he/she decided to raise and now wants to reduce the amount of the bet.
- The maximum amount any player can raise is the amount of the pot after the call was made. - To make the game proceed at a faster pace, the size of the pot is often rounded upwards, such as rounding a pot size of $80 to $100.
- The blind also plays a role in playing this version of Texas Hold Em and Omaha. A player is allowed to raise to an amount equal to four times the big blind. The small blind does not factor into the size of the raise.
This version of poker is very popular both in German casinos and on online poker sites. It is often difficult for players in live games to determine how much they can bet or raise, but in online games it is a lot easier because the computer will tell you if you have bet more than the allowable limit.
In this type of poker game in Germany, if another player bets more chips than you have, this does not mean you are forced out of the game. You will be allowed to call with the amount of chips you have and at the end of the round, your opponent will simply take back the chips that are in excess of what you had.
If you are not used to playing this type of poker, then you should not assume that the pots are lower. They can be just as high as in no limit poker. The main difference lies in the way you place your bets. The bets of any round must be at least as much as the previous bet placed in the same round, while still remaining equal to or lower than the amount of money in the pot. The risk is just as great that you will lose a lot of money if you don't get the right cards or play them well.
